Dom Gérard Calvet, OSB + 28 February 2008
On 28 February 2008 died Dom Gérard Calvet, OSB, founder and first abbot of the Benedictine abbey of Sainte-Madeleine du Barroux.
Dom Gérard was born on 18.11.1927 in Bordeaux. In 1950, he joined in Madiran in the Pyrenees in a Benedictine monastery. After the monastery was moved to Tournay, was established here in 1951 his first vows. On 5/13/1956 he was ordained priest.

1970 he received the permission of his abbot to lead a life as a hermit. Am 24.8. He comes in the small chapel of St. Mary Magdalene in Bédoin in the French Alps, where he continued to celebrate the Latin Mass of his ordination and the Latin Offizium and pray in silence and wanted to work.
